Performers

I have several loyal riders. Some are local, some are worldwide. Some compete. Most do not. None of that matters to me except if these surfers are the ones that consistently stand out as some of the most influential individuals in and out of the water. These are the surfers I want to shape for.

Leah and Baron are two incredibly talented surfers who raise the bar on multiple levels. They are kind, respectful, and intelligent youngsters who excel athletically, academically, artistically, and socially - to name a few. I couldn’t be more proud of these two human beings - winners who are destined for lifelong success.

Leah Murphy

Leah loves surfing anything and enjoys the challenge of different conditions. Originally born in Maui, Hawaii, she's called Santa Cruz, California home since she was 1 year old. Leah attends Soquel High School and maintains her academic excellence with a 3.9 GPA while simultaneously playing on the varsity water polo team, varsity swim team, and varsity surf team.

As the youngest starting player on the varsity water polo team, Leah was instrumental in helping defeat an 11-time Central Coast Section champion to qualify them for the NorCal Championships where her team placed 3rd. She also plays year-round for the Santa Cruz Waxem Club, participating in tournaments throughout California. She attributes a lot of her surfing to the intense workout she gets from water polo.

Leah is a competitive surfer in the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA), Santa Cruz County Scholastic League (SCCSL), and Big Stick Association (BSA). She's earned the overall first place title for Girls Longboard at SCCSL her sophomore year. Her favorite Roger Hinds longboard is a custom 9'8" single fin with multiple colors that represent her closest family members.

Baron Diezel Bañuelos

Baron has been riding Roger Hinds Surfboards practically since he was born. A native of Dana Point, California - he eventually became one of the familiar faces in the local harbor longboarding Boneyard with all the other groms. In middle school he joined the Marco Surf Team and moved up to short-boarding the beach breaks at Salt Creek, Strands, and Linda Lane in San Clemente. Competitions in the Scholastic Surf Series found him eventually becoming the top contender in longboard and helping the Marco Surf Team win their very first 1st Place Longboard team trophy for the 2020/2021 season. He continues to compete in high school where he ranked as the #1 longboarder on the Dana Hills Surf Team as a freshman. Baron is a member of the San Onofre Surf Team and Club, representing his favorite surf break as a competitor in club contests up and down the coast in addition to participating in the Western Surfing Association series and National Scholastic Surfing Association when time allows.

Outside of surfing, Baron is a talented musician. Although he spends most of his musical time practicing his “slap” bass technique, he can also jam on the saxophone and keyboard, grooving to a wide range of musical genres. Scholastically, he was awarded the student of the year and earned a number of other awards and achievements his 8th grade year. Now in high school, Baron continues to work hard at maintaining his 4.0 grade point average and has his eyes set on some of the top colleges in the nation.
